It's the little things for Day 29 #100DaysStudioObj
A couple of years ago I bought a bunch of mini canvases and easels at Blick simply because they were cute and they were near the cash register as I was waiting in line to buy my Xacto blades. Sucker.
A bunch of fun came of my impulse buy: I made a series of little mini collaged paintings. I don't really know how to paint (I have never taken a class or studied painting as an art form or its techniques, let alone painted anything other than an a wall in my apartment or house), so these little canvases size were a perfect "just go for it" push to play around with some acrylics I had in my studio.
I really got into the process and had a ball playing around with combining images found in vintage magazines and dabs of paint. I've been using the mini-canvases ever since that impulse buy, thanks Blick! (This includes a big puzzle piece-like collage that hung in a group show last year. There's a future post.)
The mini collaged canvas pictured above is the only one that remains from the first experiments—the others were purchased or given as gifts, but here's a few images I found of the others I made during that period:
Working small is no pressure and all pleasure. It's the little things.
