What do I write and to whom do I send it?
Writing and receiving mail from a small group of friends has been a beacon of connection in a year of mostly isolation.
Get yourself a pen pal with a big vocabulary that prompts you to look up words. Get yourself a pen pal who forces themselves to write in script only, even though it looks ridiculous and slows down your reading as you decipher. Get yourself a pen pal who sends postcards that when grouped together tell a visual story. Get yourself a pen pal who thoughtfully curates the presentation with special tape, stamps, envelopes. Get yourself a pen pal who shocks you with their honesty and prompts the same. Even the pen pal who politely asks you to stop writing—get that one too, because the letters you send will still be important.
That’s my pen pal advice.
